To see and do in Färjestad and the surrounding area
From the house, it is about 1 km to a sandy beach where you can take a cooling bath in the sea. A little further away, about 1.5 km, is the center of Färjestaden with all amenities. From Färjestaden you are also close to Kalmar via the bridge, which is one of Sweden's oldest cities with plenty of historical monuments and commerce.
There are plenty of sights on the island and a must is to take a trip by car and explore Öland's southern parts, which offer fantastic and unique nature. A tip is to visit the Långe Jan lighthouse and Eketorp's castle dating back to the 4th century. The northern part of Öland offers many attractions. Go on trip to Borgholm and take the opportunity to visit the castle ruins and the Kackelstugan where concerts are arranged during the summer. Trollskogen and the Långe Erik lighthouse are other examples of popular excursion destinations in the area.
Öland has a lot to offer for those interested in nature and wildlife. Stora Alvaret is a natural area in the southern part of the island with unique flora that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
